Image workflow
Use this when you want consistent, publish-ready images with minimal rework.
- Back to: Guides
1) Define the destination
- Web PDP, marketplace, ads, print, app store, docs
- Required dimensions, background rules, file size limits
2) Start with the best source
- Prefer original exports over re-saved images (chat apps, screenshots of screenshots)
- Avoid “export-of-export” when possible
3) Choose the minimum necessary operations
- Upscale: when detail is soft at the target display size
- Cleanup/artifact reduction: when compression noise is visible
- Background removal: when required by design or marketplace rules
4) Refine (conservative first)
- Do a first pass with conservative settings
- If needed, run a second pass for specific issues (don’t crank everything at once)
5) Review checklist (at 100%)
- Edges: halos, jaggies, missing fine parts (hair, straps)
- Texture: over-smoothing (“plastic”) vs over-sharpening (ringing)
- Text/logos: legibility and distortion
- Gradients: banding and blotches
6) Export correctly
- Use the right format for the destination (web vs print)
- Keep dimensions consistent across a set when possible
7) Spot-check on real surfaces
- Mobile + desktop
- Dark mode backgrounds if applicable
Troubleshooting quick fixes
- Halos: reduce sharpening / cleanup intensity
- Missing edges: use a higher-quality source or more conservative background removal
- Blotchy gradients: reduce aggressive enhancement and export at higher quality
