Video workflow
Use this workflow to improve perceived video quality while minimizing artifacts.
- Back to: Guides
1) Define the publish target
- Platform(s): YouTube, TikTok, Reels, Shorts, website, course platform
- Aspect ratio: 9:16, 16:9, 1:1
- Resolution targets and any file size constraints
2) Start from the best master you can
- Prefer your NLE master export over re-encoded downloads
- Avoid multiple resizes and multiple compression passes
3) Decide what “better” means
- Cleaner compression artifacts?
- More perceived sharpness?
- Better legibility of UI/text?
- Higher-quality master for future repurposing?
4) Refine conservatively
- Start with subtle enhancement; review before increasing intensity.
- If faces are present, prioritize natural skin texture.
5) Review checklist (scrub key moments)
- Faces: uncanny texture, flicker, over-smoothing
- Text overlays: shimmering and halos
- Gradients: banding and blotches (skies, walls)
- Motion: trailing artifacts and jitter
- Dark scenes: macroblocking and crushed shadows
6) Export a strong upload master
- Use a higher bitrate than the platform will deliver.
- Keep framerate consistent.
- Don’t resize twice—choose target dimensions once.
7) Upload test (recommended)
- Upload an unlisted/private version to confirm it survives platform compression.
